Re505 now accepts rechargeable batteries and cell phones for recycling. All batteries collected will be shipped to Call2Recycle.org. The following description of the recycling process is taken from Call2Recycle.org:
All the rechargeable batteries and cell phones collected through the Call2Recycle program are sent to the INMETCO recycling facility in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania for processing. The materials are separated by type. A thermal recovery process reclaims the reusable metals (nickel, iron, cadmium, lead, and cobalt) from the batteries and prepares them for use in new products such as new batteries and stainless steel. The process has been determined by the U.S. EPA to be BDAT (Best Demonstrated Available Technology) for reclaiming cadmium.
We can accept the following rechargeable batteries:
Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
Lithium Ion (Li-ion)
Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn)
Small Sealed Lead* (Pb)
These types of batteries are commonly found in cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, digital cameras, two-way radios, camcorders, and remote control toys. Sorry, but we cannot accept alkaline batteries at this time.
Drop off your old batteries and any other computer or electronic devices at Re505 Monday-Friday 10am-5pm and we will recycle them free of charge. We’re located in downtown Albuquerque on Lead ave SE, two blocks west of I-25 in between Elm and High st. on the South side of the street.
